CHALLENGE
Create a time-based piece that transforms temporal information into an engaging visual experience, whether through a timeline, timetable, calendar, or narrative sequence. Your task is to interpret and organize the flow of time in a way that feels meaningful, expressive, and memorable for the audience. The goal is to experiment with form and storytelling to reveal the significance of time within your chosen subject.
Solution
With media credibility steadily eroding over the decades, one cannot help but wonder where it all began, how journalism shifted from a noble profession into a space where writers are often driven by agenda. This project captures that decline through a timeline printed on layered sheets of vellum, transparent, fragile, and intentionally unreliable, mirroring how media, once rooted in truth, has gradually thinned into distortion. Alternating layers of imagery and timeline entries blur together, creating a visual fog where facts and context start to slip. Sharp red lines and dates cut through the otherwise black-and-white design, acting as warnings or ruptures in an increasingly fractured landscape. On the cover, scattered red letters float atop another vellum sheet, partially obscuring the hidden title, HUSH, a word that emerges only when the viewer peers through the noise. With each translucent layer, the story becomes harder to decipher, echoing the quiet creep of bias, agenda, and “fake news” that has clouded a once principled profession.
